Welcome to Blisland! We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our Reception class in September. Our school is a thriving, growing school with fabulous access to outdoors – both on site and in the local area. Reception is part of a mixed age class, spending time in both Kensa class in the main school and our Early Years unit by the field. Over the next few days you should receive a ‘Welcome Pack’ with an activity for you to complete with your child, a ‘Meet the Staff’ leaflet and another leaflet with photographs of school, as most of your children will not have been into school for nearly six months by the time we begin in September! The transition activities we would have undertaken during the summer term will not have been able to happen. However, because of the manner in which we structure our classes your child will spend time in both spaces, as they did before lock down, so should find this less challenging than many other children across England!
We are also fortunate enough to be retaining the same staff team so your child will be familiar with all of us already. Usually Mrs Andrea Harrison (Mon – Wed) and Mrs Charlotte Powdrill (Thu/Fri) will be in Kensa class with Miss Cullip (formerly Mrs Steed). Mrs Julie Pearce and Miss Lily Woods will be in the Early Years unit, joined by Miss Cullip when Reception children are there. This ensures that there is continuity for the children. Your child will be able to access both indoors and outdoors throughout the day and will learn through child initiated play (expertly supported by adults) and staff led taught sessions. Every day children will be taught phonics (the sounds that letters make), reading, writing and maths.
