Chaipel have really made progress in their writing this week, immersing themselves in how to write setting descriptions effectively using precise vocabulary, vivid sensory detail and figurative language. This afternoon, they have designed their 'newly discovered' planet with which they will combine their new learning to write a description which will evoke mood and create a sense of atmosphere.

In Maths, we have been comparing, ordering and rounding numbers. We will bring in decimals next week before moving onto addition and subtraction.

For our Wider Curriculum, we have been mixing colours to create tonal swatches, practising using a range of mediums to design the look and texture of their 'newly discovered planet. Next week, we will be looking at creating the background, producing nebulas and star clusters. In PE, Mrs Hillman has taught a range of yoga poses and I was lucky enough to see them put the poses together as a 'flow'. In PSHE, we have thinking about our hopes and dreams and what kind of world we want to live in and in French phonics, Chaipel have been learning the alphabet, how French primary school systems work and how different they are from English schools.

Don't forget it is National Fitness Day AND Meet The Teacher on Wednesday 24th. Children can come into school wearing warm PE clothes. Parents, the Meet The Teacher session begins at 2:45pm.

TALLAND'S BLOG 19.9.25

Happy weekend everyone! We hope you have had a lovely week and are all set for a breezy but fun weekend! 

We've had a great week in Talland... busy, active and creative! Here's a brief breakdown of the week:

Maths:
Year 4 have continued to look at Place Value, investigating numbers that are 10/ 100/ 1,000 times more than or less than a number. and putting numbers to 1,000 on to a number line. 
Year 5 have also continued their work with place value. They have been partitioning numbers to 1,000,000 and investigating different ways to partition these rather large numbers. 
On a Friday, both year groups are learning shape. We have been exploring the different types of angles...why not ask your child which angles they can remember...

English:
I have been WOWED by the creativity that Talland are showing when it comes to writing. They have been working hard to inspect sentences and come up with fun and descriptive ways to improve sentences... their sentences are fantastic!  

RE: 
We created posters about how wonderful our world is and what we can do to protect it. Why not ask your child how we can keep our world healthy...

PE:
Talland have been working on their core strength during yoga sessions with Mrs. Hillman, demonstrating a range of strong and agile balances. With me, we had lots of enjoyable mini football matches where children demonstrated their dribbling skills, spatial awareness, team spirit and good sportsmanship.

Geography:
Talland got to work with the atlases today, where we probed features of South-East and South- West England. We analysed keys, telling us where cities, towns, rivers and counties are. We also explored where the highest and lowest points of our country are... do you know which country in the United Kingdom has the highest point? 

CONGRATULATIONS to Anya and Archie for being nominated as our school councilors', a huge well done to Jamie for being chosen as our PE representative in the School Council and fantastic work from Lily this week for being noticed for a her excellent work ethic, learning behaviours and effort.

A great first few weeks back! 

We have had a wonderful start in our new Year 1 / 2 class.

We have started our new question for this term which is "How am I making History?" We have begun exploring our personal histories using baby photos and photos of us now. We really enjoyed guessing which baby was who!

In English, we have started our story writing unit based around the book The Three Little Pigs. We have started by building our own houses out of different materials and learning the story through role play.

In Maths, we are looking at numbers up to 20. We have been finding one more and one less this week using cubes and ten frames. We have also started counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Some updates for our new class:

PE days are Tuesday and Friday.

Books will be changed on a Friday.

Please remember to order your child's lunches on a Thursday for the following week.

Please send your child in with a coat every day. The weather is very changeable at the minute but if we can get outside, we will!

Miss Bolger - Year 1/2 class

A very busy week!

This week the nursery children have been very busy! 
 
We started our week with a visit to Hillcrest Residential Nursing Home where we did some art with the residents.  We used our hands and seasonal coloured paint, to create some wonderful handprints of various sizes. We will use the handprints to cover our Autumn section of the season tree on the classroom wall. 

 Midweek was our PE session with Ryan our coach. We have been learning some ball skills, using our hands and feet to control tennis and footballs. We have also been refining our balance by carrying beanbags on our heads and shoulders. PE is a real highlight for the children and there are always lots of giggles and smiles during our sessions. 

 Friday morning was our second outdoor learning session with Kelly Edwards. This week we were foraging for natures treasure! We had to collect natural resources that would be good for bedding and food for the woodland creatures. The children were very excited to be out in the wild! 

We are all very happy to be back into the swing of the new term and the children are all nicely settled and eager to enjoy all of the upcoming adventures we have lined up for our topic of "All About Me"

It has been another really busy week across the school, with classes fully emersed in their autumn curriculum work following the settling period at the start of term. As well as the artwork Class 3 are doing with me (shared last week), I am teaching art to Class 4 this half term too. They are learning to turn 2D into 3D and started by scaling up a silhouette of an animal onto A1 paper using a grid method. Josh's example above is really impressive and very accurate. Next week, the children will be adding texture to their animals before making them 3D.

At our weekly celebration assembly today, alongside our Ready, Respectful and Safe awards, we introduced a new certificate. For those children who use TimesTables Rockstars, we are able to look at a heat map of their performance and award a Going Green certificate when they have demonstrated they can correctly answer times tables questions repeatedly in less than 1 second. This is phenomenal and something many adults would struggle to do!

Our after school and lunchtime clubs started again this week. Depending on their age, children are able to join football, music, art, multi-skills and cross country clubs. Our peripatetic music teachers also started lessons again, with guitar, keyboard and brass tuition on offer. Finally, we welcomed Bridge Trust Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) Hannah Prinn to the school this week. Hannah will be supporting me, as Harrowbarrow SENCO, in this important area of our work. She will be visiting once a fortnight and brings additional experience and expertise. 

Busy week!

This week in Treyarnon, we have been busy little bees and now are brains are full of knowledge and creativity. 

Our class story has been 'The Final Year' by Matt Goodfellow. In English, we have been planning our own poems based on the book by focusing on informal language, noun phrases and figurative language. In guided reading, we reviewed the book and shared our opinions.

In maths, we have been learning about negative numbers, factors and multiples. We have also been finding out the divisibility rules and how they can help us when solving problems. 

In PSHE, we discussed what it meant to be mature and thought about ways in which we can show maturity. We created comics and posters to show how people can act maturely and created our own targets for personal growth. Some children said they will be tidier, except that sometimes things are not fair and take responsibility for their own belongings e.g. reading records and homework. Please ask your child what their personal target is.

An Emotional Menagerie

LoTo kick of our new term we have challenged the children to be creative.  We have focused on the poetry book 'An Emotional Menagerie' to inspire us to create a range of poems of our own.

In the poetry book, each letter of the alphabet links an emotion to an animal.  The poem then explores more about both the creature and how we can identify and manage those emotions.

So far we have learned about figurative language, rhyming couplets, and how to use colons and semi-colons in lists.  We have also spent a lot of time, developing creative ideas around each different emotion.  We look forward to sharing the final poems when the children have published them!

Friday 19th September

What another wonderful week in Foundation!

This week in phonics we have learnt the phonemes (sounds)  i/n/m/and d

The children are progressing so well with their oral blending and sound recognition.

We also made bears from our Story We're Going on a Bear Hunt, we had a class competition to see who could sequence the story, Miss Ginn and Mrs Phillips' team both tied!! The children have been using wonderful oracy skills to describe parts of the story when retelling.

In forest school with Kelly we learnt a new hide and seek game, Mrs Phillips tried to hide but the children found her very quickly! Kelly took the children on a treasure hunt too! The children also collected sticks and leaves to use as craft in class. They have made some wonderful magic sticks in class!

The children have been name writing, colouring, counting using numicon, drawing who is special to them, making family trees and so much more!

What a great week!

The Foundation Team 

It has been a rather soggy week this week but the children have been able to brighten up the school with their smiles and positive attitudes. It has been busy with photos, clubs and learning but the children have worked hard in their learning. Next week sees the sponsored triathlon on Friday and the whole school trip to the Cornwall Museum in Truro on Thursday. Sponsor forms went out for the triathlon this week. All children will be able to take part and every bit of money raised will go towards supporting the school and children. Can you please ensure that you have given permission and paid the donation for the Truro trip on Parent Pay. If we do not receive enough payments to cover the cost of the trip, we will unfortunately need to cancel. Finally, as we get into the new year, can I please ask everyone to continue to respect the residents who live around the school. This is particularly true at drop-off and pickup times as it is sometimes hard for them to move cars with parents parking on the zig-zags outside of school. This is for safety of the everyone in our community.

Fun, Friendship and Learning

What a fantastic week we have had in Tregantle Class!

The children have been getting to grips with recognising their name cards and practicing writing their names using the correct letter formation. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing each day. We are also well underway with our phonics lessons and have already learnt five new sounds - amazing progress! A big well done to the children for practicing these at home to help remember them. The children also loved spending time with their reading buddies this week, sharing books and stories together.

In maths, we have been practicing careful counting by lining up objects and touching them one by one as we count. Everyone is working so hard to become accurate counters.

This week also saw our first PE lesson in the hall, where the children had great fun moving around in different ways, even pretending to be animals! We also practiced stopping quickly and starting again, which made for lots of laughter!

Our outside learning area has been full of excitement, with the large construction equipment being put to excellent use. We've seen an aeroplane and even a mansion created this week - fantastic teamwork and imagination!

Finally, we have started a new routine of cleaning our teeth each day after lunch. The children have really embraced this, helping us all to keep our teeth clean and healthy.

Well done, Tregantle Class - what a brilliant week of fun, friendship and learning! We are so proud of all your hard work and enthusiasm.

Yesterday you should have received the Term 1 Curriculum Maps (Y1-6)/Knowledge Mats (Reception) by email. Copies are also available on the class pages of our website.

School Photos
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Tempest Photography will be in school taking individual and sibling photos over the two days. Please ensure your child is looking super smart in their full uniform (as always) and if wanted, provide them with a comb/brush for their hair. If your child has PE next Tuesday or Wednesday, they will need to wear school uniform and bring their PE kit to change into on this occasion.

FOWPA - Back to School Uniform Sale
FOWPA will be holding a back to school uniform sale after school next Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September, outside the main reception (inside if wet) from 3:00 - 3:45pm. Suggested donation for all items is £1. FOWPA would also welcome donations of clean jumpers, ties and sports tops - please leave in the basket in the reception area at any time, thank you.

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Friday 26th September
Year 6 look forward to hosting you at their Macmillan Coffee Morning next Friday 26th September from 08:45 in the Hall. Everyone is welcome to help raise money for this charity.

Foodbank Collection for Harvest
For Harvest this year, we will once again be collecting for Wadebridge Foodbank. Please send your child in with any donations between Monday 29th September and Friday 3rd October. Donations such as tins and jars of food, rice, pasta, general toiletries and long life juice are most welcomed. Thank you for your support.

Fire Evacuation
This week we held our first fire evacuation of the year. The children were calm and very sensible throughout. Later in the term we will be doing our annual lockdown process as in previous years. We will be in touch beforehand with further details.

Year 2 and 3 Class Blog - Weekly Learning Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a busy and exciting week in Year 2 and 3, and the children have been working incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum. Here's a snapshot of what we've been learning:

English
In English, we have been focusing on using ambitious vocabulary to make our writing more vivid and powerful. The children have been challenged to expand their sentences with descriptive phrases and to group their ideas into clear paragraphs. It has been wonderful to see them becoming more confident writers who enjoy experimenting with language.

Maths
Our maths lessons have continued to focus on place value. The children have been practising how to partition numbers, compare them using greater than and less than symbols, and explain their reasoning when solving problems. This strong foundation will support their confidence as we move into more complex calculations.

History
In History, our topic on Ancient Egypt has led us to explore the importance of the River Nile. The children have discovered how it provided water, fertile land, and a means of transport, making it essential for farming, trade, and daily life. They have particularly enjoyed discussing how different their own lives would be without such a resource.

RE
Our Religious Education lessons have focused on what makes people feel a sense of belonging. We have been learning about Christians and Muslims, and how their communities, traditions, and practices help them feel connected to their faith. The children have shown great curiosity and respect as they ask thoughtful questions.

PE
In PE, we have been developing our netball skills. The class has been practising passing, moving into space, and teamwork. It has been fantastic to see how their confidence and cooperation have grown during these sessions.

And much more!
From creative sewing activities to problem-solving in science, the children have had many opportunities to explore, question, and develop new skills this week.

Finally, thank you so much for your continued support with reading at home. It truly makes such a difference to the children's progress and helps them to become more fluent, confident, and enthusiastic readers.

Monday 15th September 

We have settled really well into our new class and everyone has been working hard! It has been fantastic to see such a positive start to the year.

In History, we are learning all about World War II. We have also been linking this to our Dance lessons, where we are creating our own motifs inspired by this topic.

In Maths, we have been focusing on place value, including reading and writing numbers up to one million and working with Roman numerals.

In English, we have begun planning our own poems inspired by The Emotional Menagerie. We are experimenting with different writing techniques such as similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, and using powerful noun phrases to bring our ideas to life.

A big thank you to those who have been practising regularly on Times Tables Rock Stars and reading at least three times a week, remembering to record this in your reading record books - keep it up!

We've also been creative outdoors in the woodlands, where we designed and made our own creatures from clay. These imaginative creations link beautifully with our poetry work and show just how creative Year 5 and 6 can be.

Well done Year 5 and 6 - what a brilliant start to the year!

Duckpool Class have been enjoying an active and exciting week of learning in our new classroom. We enjoyed learning about 'Place Value' in maths and have been excited to demonstrate how we can show numbers in different ways using the fantastic new Maths Resource Boxes.

In English, we have been learning how to use fronted adverbials and relative pronouns, ready to be creative with grammar next week when we write our own stories! It was also special for the children to receive lessons in how to play a violin, read music and play in unison.

In Geography this term, we are learning all about rivers and we have been discussing how lucky we are to be so close to a significant river and all the knowledge we have about the River Tamar, using our oracy strategies. We have set up an experiment to demonstrate the water cycle and our class novel is Journey to the River Sea. Watch this space to see what else we learn next week!

We have been absolutely thrilled with how the children have come back. They are settled and ready to learn.

We have welcomed our 8 new early years children to Trenode and they have already become part of the family. They have been busy learning the new school routines and have loved playing with all the different resources.

Looe Shedders surprised the children with a brand new play house for outside on the school decking. They have spent the last 2 years refurbishing it and the transformation was incredible. It was a hit with the children who immediately began their imaginary play. 

Forest school Friday has got up and running already with Kelly and we've definitely needed the waterproofs!
